“We can no longer take it, instead of love and respect from our husbands all we get are abuses, beatings, and disrespect on daily basis. The time has come when we defend ourselves andb v fight for our right.”
That is statement of the women was severally beaten by their husbands after been heavily drunk. This woman in tears call for unionism of the wives of every drunkard in Kaduna state, Nigeria to come together and find a way to fight for their rights and uplift the image of womanhood.
In a region called Television village of Sabon Tasha in Kaduna state, Nigeria has been ascribed as ‘Sodom and Gomorrah,’ as people have sex on the street and constant rape of both men and women occur.
In the region a particularly kind of competition is featured, men gamble with women, is a kind of game that is been done with a local Alcoholic drink called ‘Brukutu’ the participants drinks until one gets drunk that he cannot take any longer and becomes unconscious.
The loser losses his wife to another man and when there are no losers the husbands exchange their wives. Each husband goes home to make sex with another man’s wife, when the day breaks the wives returns to their various homes.
The game also has an option two for players if the players could not afford to get his wife; if he loses, he goes home naked with only his pants on his waist.
As it is been said that ‘alcohol goes with drinking and eating’ a particular kind of delicious paper soup are always been made by the bars around. The delicacy is made of dog meat; people eat dogs in the area, dogs are the source of meat and the game does not began unless the dog paper soup is ready.
Before the game begins, a signal must be sent out to the people, the signal comes from the ‘Dog Joint Canteen,’ this signal is been sent in a special way and in a language that everyone understands.
There is a very long poll that has a flag on it, when the red flag is up it means the delicacy is not yet ready and the game is yet to start, but when the red flag goes down and the green flag goes up, then it means all is set and people pump in to contest for the best drunker of the day.
A popular player called Mike Tyson is one the people’s favorite, looking at the face and body of the wife of this so called Mike Tyson one would agree that indeed he is a Mike Tyson as his wife’s face looks like that of a boxer been punched by Mike Tyson.
This player is always going back home naked and ends up declaring war between him and his wife as he blames his wife for losing saying that “If she had come along I will have not lost my cloths and belonging.”
The beating of wives by their husbands did not call for alarm until the competition takes another dimension as women now partake in the game. The involvement of women in the game creates a nickname for the region that is known as ‘Sodom and Gomorrah.’
The women involve are ranged from the age of 18 to 50 year-old, these women gets drunk and became unable to find their way home. As they lay on the street or beside the street, some men begin to rape these women and likewise women raping men who cannot find their way home.
The region has become extremely dangerous and unholy at night and the number of participants in the game keeps increasing daily and the game now been practiced in 4 regions in Kaduna state, namely Television village, Angwangwari, Kafanchan, Angwan Romi.
The concerned and patriotic women in these region have come together to protect their image and put an end to the menace by forming a union that will prevent their husbands from hitting them after been drunk as they could not stop them from been drunk.
The wife of the so-called Mike Tyson, Mrs. Blessing Kambai emerges as the Chairlady of the proposed union “Nigerian Union of Drunkards’ wife” and declared zero tolerance of women against drunken men.
Speaking with the aspirant Chairlady who said that, enough is enough and it’s time to say no to wives abuse by their husbands and this time their husbands will accept the change by forces.
“For a long time we have endured pain, we have tried to be happy wives, we have tried to please our husbands and let them know that we love them but what we get in return for been submissive is either a broken leg or broken arms. This time if they don’t give us the respect we deserve, just as the bible says, “the violence shall take it by force,” we will take it by force.”
While speaking with tears Mrs. Kambai caused the day she was married stating the fact if she had knew that her husband has a wife before her she would never marry him, if getting married to him is the only way to her happiness she better remain a sadist forever.
“I could still recall the wedding day, how beautiful it was, the smile of my face that am going to be a fulfilled woman, little did I know that my husband already married alcohol as a first wife and now bringing me in as a second wife. I regret my marriage and cause is that day”.
Looking at the marriage of life of Mrs. Kambai one would rather say if this is marriage then been single a blessing. Mrs. Kambai called on single women to know the background of whomever they desire to marry to avoid saying, “Had I know”.
“I have come to realize that the statement had I know always comes at the end of everything, that is why I will advice the singles ladies to void that statement and take their time before they get married because is pain, Marriage is never a road to happiness and marriage is never fulfillment.”
The Union is made of 50 members, all females; with the motto, “Women deserve equal right and respect.” The union candidates for their election are been selected from the most beaten and most drunken husbands’ wives.
No doubts the selection of the candidates is certainly the ultimate as the aspirant Vice Chairlady, Mrs. Margret Umra who made it know that their husbands will have to go United Nations to get a ‘peace binding resolution’ to serve them from their hands as she declared war on drunkards.
“As you can see am sick and admitted in a hospital as my husband beats me until I collapsed, it was by the mercy of the neighbors who intervened that am still alive today. As soon as am out of this sick bed it will be war, heaven will have shake to serve these men that have refused to respect their wives or the will have to go to United Nations to get a peace binding resolution.”
People advised Mrs. Umra to get well from her last war before declaring another and not to do something stupid because it will be suicide mission. The people of Kaduna state, Nigeria keeps their finger cross to see how far and how well the union goes.
